One school of thought teaches that its earliest form began with the ancient Chinese and Japanese practice of ringing bells when making offerings to the Gods and during Ancestor Worship. People would go to the Temples in China and Japan and make their offerings to the Ancestors, to the Gods and ask their questions. They would then look up inside the bells and read the patterns in the marks made by the bell ringing.
Over time a natural evolution took place, and the result was the current form of divination, the bell was replaced by the tea cup and a correlation is drawn between the bowl shape of the cup and the celestial dome of the Heavens and so the patterns seen in the tea are believed to be signs and omens. The careful reading of the leaves, also known as Tasseomancy or Tasseography, is a skillful yet soothing meditative practice.
It is believed that Tea was first discovered by accident by Chinese Emperor Shen Nung in 2737 BC, which means that people have been drinking tea for about five thousand years.
An ideal way to spend an afternoon, either having a reading one on one or why not host a Tea Leaf Reading Party?
