The old year ended, minus the Mayan Apocalypse, and the new has begun. Many voices in the new age and healing 'movement' predicted seismic changes in human consciousness and angelic ascension, space people and so on. Yet here we are in 2013 and many of the old patterns seem to stay the same. Change is not a fast thing, and yet it can strike like lightening and life is never the same again.
So what does this all mean? In conversation recently the topic most dominant has been, did the change happen and are we the ones "left behind", is there some deficiency in humanity which meant that the long predicted awesomeness didn't occur? Was it all a load of bunkum?
In the 'run up" to the non-event so many people around me began modifying their behaviour, being nicer and kinder to each other not unlike children waiting for Father Christmas. Hoping that by being nice at the last minute they could get to quote one lady "mega-karmic-brownie-points" and so a nicer post-apocalyptic existence.
I guess the real question that should be being asked is 'What caused so many people to buy in to the idea of an Apocalypse, and does it really take a potential Apocalypse to make people be nice to each other?".
From a healing perspective its hard to get to the root behind the mindset which causes situations like these. We can explore the chakras, the mindsets and utilise traditional healing techniques to restore inner serenity, but I feel that what's behind the panic is literally feelings of fear and despair. Fear because an Apocalypse is a scary thing and yet quite abstract so its easy to push all other fears in that direction, despair because people generally in the current socio-economic climate are suffering and perhaps yearning for something better. A yearning for happier times and for "that peace which the world cannot give". The world has got itself in a mess and for many there doesn't seem to be a way forward. As a healer, the first instinct is to work with the fear and to heal and release it. As a healer one is taught to harmonise your energy-bodies and to re-orientate thoughts to manifest a new truth. The best way to begin this process is with oneself, be the change you wish to see in the world. In Reiki we are taught that this process begins with self-healing, using Reiki to work on ourselves on a daily basis. So we draw this post to a close suggesting that self-healing and sharing healing with our friends and family are going to be key to changing our lives for the better.
